Thing 16 RWT Meets Titan Pad

Did you ever have a brilliant idea in your head? Well I did and then I put it into real life. The idea was good but the briallance faded away quickly as I saw my students faces and realized the lesson flopped. However, it turned into a great learning experience for all of us. In many of my classes we have been trying different parts of Read Write Think (RWT). One class we used them to encourage conversations using the comic creator

Another part of RWT we used was for my 7-8 grade students was poetry shapes. It was challenging for them to come up with ideas. Once you get used to it then it does get easier. We were just looking for an online interactive for poetry so this was ok. Check out Poetry Shapes

The last project we did was a short career project. the goal was to have students just find a few facts about any career they chose. They had to use the library web page and follow the directions for researching. We completed a brief KWLchart.

The next step was to complete the KWL and save it to finish the Learn part of it. Students completed their researchand their KWL chart online. Just to try to be a little more creative I tried an experiement with a small class using student KWL charts and creating a Titan Pad for students to share their work. That’s pretty much where my idea bombed. I was trying to have all the students add facts from the KWL chart into a Titan Pad so that they could see each others work. Having students type simultaneously only created havoc. I will include the final product (beware it is not one of my best ones). We learned that if students write at one time it is too confusing to everyone. However, if people take turns and wait for the other person to write then it works better. I will upload the link later.
RWT has an enormous selection of interactivees that I would recommend to anyone.Titan Pad is also very usefull for certain projects.
