Thing 9 Audio Books

So I just wanted to finish this post on a positive note. My new mp3 player works great with  Over Drive. When turn off my mp3 player and then turn it back on it starts exactly where I left  off.  After talking to people about an e reader I have decided that eventually I will get one after I get a Jet Ski, being out on the water cruising on the lake takes priority over an e reader.

Thing 9 Audio Books

My learning experience.

I learned that I need to read past the first five pages in instruction manuals. I actually put things (gas grills, mowers) by looking at the picture rather than reading instructions. But I actually found some important information on page six. I learned that I have to put the audio book in a pod cast folder and not my music folder. My old mp3 player was so old that it didn’t give me other choices. So now I have my new book, Seriously…I’m Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres downloaded in the proper place in my Sansa Fuze in the correct folder so when I turn it off and then turn it back on it actually picks up exactly where I left off. So this is progress on my part. Now that I understand more about audio books and the problems that can arise I would actually feel comfortable helping others with this part. At work I usually ask one of my students to help me.

I decided to down load audio books through Over Drive. My old mp3 player did not work well with listening to a downloaded book.  Each time I would turn it off it would go back to the beginning of the chapter. So, I decided I needed an mp3 player just for books and the other for music. At a store that sells electronics I asked the questions about how does it work and does it work well with Over Drive. Of course he said yes. So after the 50 minute ride home I popped it into my computer to read the PDF and in large print it said this player does not support Over Drive. When I went back to the store I had the sales person Google the Sansa Fuze to show me in the manual that it actually does work with Over Drive. I downloaded the book and still had problems with listening to the book so I am re-reading the PDF to find out what I did wrong. I will keep people informed.

Thing 9 Ereader

So I am thinking about actually buying some tye of ereader. I have read some posts about the different types. So i was hoping for input on this from other librarians.

Thing 9 Over Drive

I am new at downloading ebooks from my to computer to my mp3 player. I have read Bill Bryson’s A Walk in the Woods on my computer several months ago. It’s an excellent book for anyone who has done any hiking and enjoys hiking. i also downloaded The Help to listen to but didn’t have the time to listen. So now my latest adventure is Ryan Smithson’s Ghosts of War. I chose this because I had read it before and the author reads it himself. I needed a book written by one of the authors that was just here for the Children’s Book Festival because we are using Animoto with my students on books they have just read by the authors at our book festival.  I needed some book that i was familiar with for the lesson so I chose Ghosts of War.  I had to down load it at home because each of the computers I use here all have different versions of software in them. I was able to read A Walk in the Woods on my work computer but couldn’t down load an audio book. Doing it at home is the easiest way for me to use Over Drive.

Since I never downloaded a book on my mp3 player it was a bit frustrating. I had to download the newest version of the console then down load the book and then put it on my mp3, that part was ok but it took me forever to find where i put it and access on the player. I listened to it last night and am enjoying it. So this is really my first time listening to a book in this format.
